‘Kemas’ is a roving performance within Kampong Gelam that explores meticulous behaviour, through the act of cleaning. Translated to ‘tidy’ or ‘clean up’ in English, ‘Kemas’ invites you to reflect on our responsibilities in protecting and shaping Kampong Gelam’s built heritage & cultural identity, revealing themes of continuity and change. In an effort to defend Singapore's fragile social fabric, solidarity through body movement fosters unity, shaping our history and identity as a community.
P7:1SMA, also known as Prisma, is a dance company that creates in the intersections of tradition and contemporary practices. Led by Norhaizad Adam, their philosophy centres on "Dance is a strategy, and Malay is a concept.". Their work explores moral dilemmas and challenges traditions, aiming to redefine perspectives on Malay identity through innovative performances. They prioritise respect and reciprocity, exploring moral dilemmas to challenge traditions and reshape perspectives on Malay culture and identity through innovative performances.
Things to note:
- Participants who registered on Peatix will get the opportunity to participate in the performance and interact with the dancers.
- Recommended for ages 7 years and above. MHC reserves the right to deny admission to children aged 6 years old and below.
- Each ticket admits one participant only.
- Those who did not manage to register as a participant are still welcome to watch the performance as an audience.
- The performance duration is approximately forty-five minutes.
- The starting point for the performance is Busorrah Street (near Ratianah).
- Kindly arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes before the programme commences for registration.
- This is a rain-or-shine event. Participants are encouraged to bring their own umbrellas or ponchos.
