How did the practice of cooling hot tea by “pulling” the brew between two cups, now known to us as teh tarik, start? And why did early Chinese coolies chug Chinese tea with a hearty bowl of pork rib soup for breakfast? This exhibition explores how tea has been localised in rituals and forms of tea consumption unique to Singapore, and charts the story of the tea trade.
